Repair or replace

When a repair is enough

Repair when the damage is in one place: a storm-lifted section, one rotten corner, a soffit board a bird got behind. Replace when the paint is failing all round, more than a couple of spots are soft, or the gutter is sagging along its length. Three or four sections at €150 to €300 each come close to a whole semi at €1,000 to €1,600.

What they check

Behind the damaged board

  • The rafter ends: soft wood means the rot has gone further than the board.
  • The gutter brackets: they'll be refixed into sound wood or new uPVC.
  • The vents: a repaired soffit must keep the air gap into the attic.
  • The colour: a new section in white on old white uPVC can look brighter for a while.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Can a section of fascia be replaced?

Yes. A section up to 3 m is €150 to €300, matched to the rest as closely as the colour allows.

How much is a soffit repair?

€120 to €250 for a section.

Is storm damage covered by insurance?

Sometimes. Photograph the damage before it's repaired and ask your insurer; the written price helps the claim.
